Reusing PayPal My Cash at CVS

I realized launching a blog late in December is a horrible idea because of how busy I am. I’ll hopefully be able to post more soon, but I may not get to it until the new year.

It turns out you can reuse PayPal My Cash cards at CVS. All you have to do is take a My Cash card that you’ve already loaded to your account (where you’ve already input the PIN) and ring it up just like a new card. Instead of having to input the PIN again, though, the money will be instantly loaded to your account. In my experience, I always got the email notification within ten minutes of doing this.

This is a decent way to be more environmentally conscious while still MSing – a person maxing out one account will go through 8 plastic cards per month. Over the course of a year (and yes, it’s possible to MS with PayPal for a year or more), that amounts to 96 different cards. With this method, all of that could be reduced to one.

This is also extremely useful whenever a store is out of stock. This is actually how I learned about this trick – my local cashier told me that he just scans his old My Cash card without getting a new one. If you’re in an MS heavy area or a place that doesn’t restock option, this is a great way to continue without having to wait for a new shipment.

Take note, though, that I’ve only ever tested this at CVS, with a card purchased at the same CVS. I have done it at multiple CVS locations, though. In theory, it could work at other stores like Walgreens. Be warned that I have no idea if it will work the same way.

Also, I’ve only ever tried to do this with one card at a time. PayPal has maximum load limit of $500 from My Cash per day. It should be possible to repurchase the same card more than once in a day, but I have no idea what will happen given that limit. Anyone who tries could circumvent the limit or end up losing their money because PayPal simply won’t accept it. To be safe, I’d only do one card per day, so this would mean a maximum of 8 trips to the store per month. This is definitely still useful if your CVS is chronically out of stock or if there’s a store nearby.
