The basic plan is to get Gamestop gift cards at a discount at Raise by going through a portal, use those cards to get Shell cards, and then sell those on a reseller site.
At the time of this post, Raise is offering up to 8.8% back on Gamestop cards. However, that’s only if you buy $500 cards, and that could be a bit much for this kind of opportunity. A more reasonable amount would be $200, which is being offered at 7.3% off. The highest denomination Shell gift card I’ve seen at Gamestop is $50, so that’s why I wouldn’t want to get a card higher than $200.
According to Cashback Monitor, Splender has a maximum rate back of 3%, also with a couple of 2% back opportunities with other portals.
SaveYa is offering to buy cards at 91.01% of face value. In addition, TopCashBack as well as Simply Best Coupons are offering 2% back on gift card sales. I’m not entirely sure if this is 2% back on face value or of the amount of the sale, but the calculations below assume the latter just to be safe.
Putting it all together, here’s how the math works out:
$185.32 (out of pocket cost from Raise) * 3% (cashback from Splender) = $5.56
$200 (in Shell cards) * 91.01% (sold to SaveYa) = $182.02
$182.02 * 2% (from TopCashBack or Simply Best Coupons) = $3.64
Final Cost: $185.32 – $182.02 – $5.56 – $3.64 = -$5.90
Assuming all of the cashback tracks and the rate holds steady, you’d make $5.90 from the sale alone, without taking into account any points from a credit card.
