Here’s a quick tip. Credit cards issued by Synchrony Bank can be paid via debit cards over the phone. After dialing the number on the back of your card, just keep asking for a representative in the automated message system, and you’ll eventually reach a human, and they’ll be able to take the payment. I first learned about this through a comment by sexhax0r but have since verified it myself.
There’s usually a fee of $10 for using the phone system as opposed to online, but you can ask for a waiver, and it’s up to the representative to charge you or not. It also takes 48-72 hours for the payment to reflect in your account (and the available credit isn’t freed up until then).
The transaction is definitely not counted as a signature purchase (most likely PIN-less debit). The strange thing is that the first time I did this, the representative only asked for my card number, and the payment went through without me providing my expiration date or my CVC. The second time I did so, I was asked for this information.
Card numbers may be recorded, regardless of whether the representative asks for your permission. I made a second payment less than twelve hours after my first using a different debit card, and I was asked for the last four digits of my previous card. This may lead to issues similar to paying cards from FIA Card Services/Bank of America, where representatives get suspicious if you use multiple cards.
This may be useful for some people who want to take advantage of a particular credit card opportunity.
Lastly, cards from Giftcards.com worked just the same as they do with Citi phone payments, so this could be a good liquidation method.
